Online Skateboard Shop

If you are interested in the history of skateboarding and how the sport came about, you should be able to find an online skateboard shop that will be willing to give you a little more information or at least point you in the right direction. The very first skateboard was created in the 1950’s, during the time when surfing gained immense popularity in California. These forefathers of the skateboards we know today were made from home out of flat planks of wood and stuck onto the wheels of roller skates. In this time, one called skateboarding “sidewalk surfing”, as the same tricks and maneuvers were copied from surfing; and many surfers also had a skateboard.

The manager of an online skateboard shop will also talk to you about the fact that crate scooters were very similar in nature to the later skateboards, but were made from wooden crates and even had handlebars! Although the sport of skateboarding was slowly gaining in popularity, it wasn’t until the middle of the 1960’s that large surfing gear manufacturers started producing skateboards on a large scale for retail purchasing. Promotion teams were set up and a large national magazine was created called “Skateboarder Magazine”, and before long an international competition was created and aired on television for the world to see who the reigning champion would be!

An online skateboard shop is obviously a new invention that came along with the Internet, but in the 1970’s many retail stores started popping up everywhere, particularly with the production of the new and improved skateboard, designed by Frank Nasworthy. This new skateboard was made out of polyurethane, and gave a dramatically enhanced traction, and so skateboarders were able to improve their game with a wide array of outstanding tricks and jumps! Soon skateboards were appearing in different sizes, weights and many remarkable bright colors to entice the audience and sell more of the product. After this rush in the market, manufacturers created skateboards in varying metals, such as aluminum and even fiberglass composites.

If you log onto an online skateboard shop, you will probably be able to get more information on the newest tricks that you can practice at home or in the skateboard parks. Interestingly, after the production of new improved skateboards in metals and other types of materials, skateboarders started practicing new tricks in empty swimming pools, which is how the ramps in the popular skateboard parks came about that we know so well today. In the eighties, street skating became a popular pastime, as it still is today, as can be seen on the sidewalks and also in the parking arcades of shopping centers. Today there is a wider and more advanced following of the sport, with many high profile worldwide competitions and thousands of outrageous tricks and awe inspiring skateboards and accessories to choose from in any online skateboard shop. Today snow boarding has also gained immense popularity with the youth, particularly at events like the X-Games and such.
